Robust Electronic Design, Inc. is an electronics-consulting company
based in Lexington, Kentucky. Our mission is to help our clients put their
electronic products into production, profitably. We focus on identifying
likely problem areas, and areas of high risk, early in the
specification/development process. Then we:
- Design the product/equipment to avoid these problems entirely.
OR
- Design enough "hooks" and flexibility into the product/equipment that
we can easily identify and quantify problems during development, then
tweak the product/equipment into compliance.
Some of our major concerns are:
- How to make the product/equipment safe (and safely)?
- How to make the product/equipment reliable?
- How to minimize emissions from the product?
- How to maximize immunity to noise, programming bugs, and other
disturbing factors?
- How to manufacture the product?
- How to test the product?

- Power, telecommunication, and other physical/electrical requirements of
our target markets?
- Safety standards that we must meet?
- Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards that we must meet?

- Electrostatic discharge (ESD) standards that we must meet?
- Design requirements, market requirements, standards, and regulatory
requirements that are likely to change on us, either during development
or during the production life of the product?
- How to make the design flexible, so that it can be easily adapted/
upgraded to meet new requirements?
- How to best integrate mechanical design, electrical design, electronic
design, and software?
- Choice of components, manufacturing processes, and alternatives to
ensure that we can manufacture the product economically during the
projected production lifetime?
- Bringing up, checking out, and qualifying prototypes?
- How to put the product into production?
- Design guidelines for development and manufacturing?
- How to document the product/equipment for users and servicers?
We have high-speed Internet access, which we use mainly to communicate with
clients and to find sources of technical information. As much as possible we
work with primary sources of information. We have ready access to Robust
Electronic Design's own technical library, two other corporate technical
libraries in Lexington, and the University of Kentucky Engineering Library.
We also have access to various universities' Engineering Libraries both inside
and outside Kentucky.
